The Aula Maxima
In 1846 the renowned architectural team of Deane & Woodward designed
the great hall of University College Cork, the Aula Maxima. This
building has always been seen as the ‘jewel’ in the university’s
neo-gothic main quadrangle.
The building was the centre of activity, where everyone assembled on
the opening day in 1849. To this day the Aula Maxima serves the
epicentre of college activities and as the main ceremonial hall,
banquet centre and examinations hall.
This 19th century building is of significant cultural and
architectural importance therefore needed to be restored and
refurbished by experienced professionals.
