The Main Quadrangle is the heart of University College, Cork. Designed by Thomas Deane and Benjamin Woodward and built in 1847 and 1849 when University College Cork was first founded. The style is described as Tudor Domestic Gothic and reflects the accepted tradition of college designs of the late 1840's.

  The Crawford Observatory UCC
Constructed in 1878, the Crawford Observatory remains the only observatory on any university campus in Ireland. This unique initiative was funded in part by local businessman William Horatio Crawford, a member of the local brewing family of Beamish and Crawford, and the Duke of Devonshire of Lismore Castle.

  The Aula Maxima UCC
In 1846 the renowned architectural team of Deane & Woodward designed the great hall of University College Cork, the Aula Maxima. This building has always been seen as the ‘jewel’ in the university’s neo-gothic main quadrangle.

The building was the centre of activity, where everyone assembled on the opening day in 1849 To this day the Aula Maxima serves the epicentre of college activities and as the main ceremonial hall, banquet centre and examinations hall.

  Dunboy Castle Hotel, Castletownbere, Cork

Dunboy Castle is situated in a beautiful inlet from the sea on the Beara peninsula near Castletownbere. The estate consists of the ruins of Dunboy Castle, a stronghold of the O’Sullivan Bere built to guard and defend the harbour of Berehaven in the 15th century. The spectacular ruins of Puxley mansion stand nearby, built by Henry and John Puxley in 1739, the family having been granted the lands previously belonging to the O’Sullivans.

Carrig House was built in 1850 by a wealthy merchant of the name John Atkins. It is an imposing house of 10,000 square foot on a prominent sea front elevated site. It changed hands in the 1890’s and then several times again until it was bought for use as the American Consulate in the 1920’s.

Castlehyde House is situated on the banks of the River Blackwater in Fermoy, Co. Cork. The house dates back to 1760 and, as the name implies, was the one time home of the Hyde family, Sir Douglas Hyde being the first President of Ireland appointed under the Constitution of 29th December 1937. The house is now owned by Mr. Michael Flatley.

The area around this part of Waterford is known as the Copper Coast due to the abundance of naturally occurring minerals. Tankardstown mine was constructed in 1841 by the Mining Company of Ireland and at its peak mining employed 1100 people in the area.

  St. Michaels Church Blackrock, Cork

St. Michaels church was built in 1827 by William Hill Architect. It served as a chapel of ease to St. Finbarres in Cork. It is an impressive structure of hewn limestone with a tower crowned with battlements and pinnacles. The spire of the Church is 60 foot high.
