UCC Quadrangle
The Main Quadrangle is the heart of University College, Cork.
Designed by Thomas Deane and Benjamin Woodward and built in 1847 and
1849 when University College Cork was first founded. The style is
described as Tudor Domestic Gothic and reflects the accepted
tradition of college designs of the late 1840's. The tower clock,
manufactured by Mr. James Mangan, clockmaker and jeweler of Patrick
Street, Cork, was installed in 1841.
Today the building is used mainly for administrative purposes. It
also houses the Visitor Centre and is the location of the President
and Vice President’s office.
